Humanity is "nourished by the visions of their solitary dreamers... composer, sculptor, painter, poet... the world is beautiful because they have lived; without them laboring humanity would perish." At Exclusive Collections, we strive to keep the dream vibrant, both for the clients we serve and the artists we represent.
We Personalize the Artist-Patron Relationship
Who we are at Exclusive Collections actually has its origins in what is now a bygone era. It was in the Batignolles District of 19th century Paris that artists the likes of Claude Monet, Edouard Manet, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir gathered at the Café Guerbois to drink, dine, and discuss their work. Numerous artists resided and made their living in Batignolles, which also provided the setting for many now-famous paintings. And, it was in Batignolles where patrons and art collectors met these painters, viewed their works, and connected with the artists on a personal level.
We believe that when patrons and artists meet, a relationship is borne that is extraordinary for both. For the collector, the art becomes personalized and an emotional bond to both the art and the artist is crystallized (If you doubt this for even a moment, recall the last time a friend or colleague showed you an art piece s/he had acquired. One of the first things s/he likely told you was, "I met the artist and …"). Likewise, artists thrive on meeting their collectors - for many of the same reasons stage actors prefer the Theatre to the "Silver Screen" - a live audience allows them to feel appreciated, validates their sense of creativity, and energizes them to continually expand the limits of their artistry.
We realize the 21st century has eclipsed the age of Monet, Manet, and Renoir. Art, too often, is a commodity sold in ultra-modern cosmopolitan galleries. Interior decorators regularly purchase a piece for their client because it matches the décor. And, the relationship between the collector and the artist is forgotten. While we certainly have interior designers and out-of-town collectors as clients, we firmly believe that "the fine art experience" is most enriched when collector and artist come together. Each month, we host a two-day show that celebrates one of our featured artists. Most are catered and we often have live music befitting the occasion. So, be prepared to encounter old friends as well as new and, of course, to meet your favorite artist. Attendance is by invitation only. But that is easy; please phone the gallery ahead of time to let us know you are coming. We want to be sure we have ample refreshments for all our guests.
Our Relationship with Our Artists
We believe that the relationship between the artist and the gallery is as important as that between the artist and the collector. Mostly, galleries have a financial arrangement with the artist; the artist agrees to send a certain number of pieces to the gallery and the gallery agrees to sell them for a given amount and collects a commission. For us, the bond we have with each of our artists is far more personal. Not only do we exhibit the works of world-class artists like Otsuka and Royo, but we are honored to include them as friends as well. We also take special pride in discovering today's nascent talent like Michael Flohr and Henry Asencio and helping them develop into tomorrow's masters. We encourage creativity, while at the same time, refinement of technique, publish selected pieces, and introduce them into other galleries throughout the country and world. And, as each artist matures, we experience the joy of facilitating that process and witnessing their success. As our artists flourish, so do we, and ultimately, so do our clients who have collected their work.
Our Relationship with Our Clients
We also strongly value our relationships to our clients. Our aim is not to just sell a painting or limited edition off one of our walls. As collectors ourselves, we intimately understand the emotional and psychological aspects of purchasing fine art. Please come in and introduce yourself. Take time to become familiar with our artists. Many of our patrons return several times before ever making a purchase. Then, when a particular piece moves you, we can help you decide whether it would be a good acquisition. We believe that a piece of art that truly reflects the collector's unique personality will provide a lifetime of pleasure.
As trite as it may sound, we avow that both trust and integrity necessarily serve as the cornerstone for all long-term meaningful relationships. This is especially true for the fine-art business; where works often have little intrinsic value and whether a piece is genuine or not may be called into question. To protect both our clients and our artists, Exclusive Collections issues a Certificate of Authenticity and Replacement Value (for insurance purposes) for the works we purvey.
Finally, we pride ourselves as consultants of fine art; many of us have related college degrees and we possess over 30 years experience in the field. You will never experience a "pressure sale" in our gallery. Our corporate mission is to educate our clients about the rewards of fine art collecting and to help them build an enduring collection that will appreciate with time. We think the exceptional quality of our artists will draw you to our gallery. Our philosophy on conducting business will win your trust and loyalty and bring you back again and again over the years to come.
Sincerely,
Exclusive Collections
